The Interim Haiti Recovery Commission was set up after the Jan. 12 earthquake as a joint Haitian-international effort to effectively channel billions of dollars of donated reconstruction aid.

According to the Centers for Disease and Control (CDC), in its article Health Information for Travelers to Haiti, "diseases from food and water are the leading cause of illness in travelers." The CDC also states, in another article called Risks from Food and Water, "among the more common infections that travelers can acquire from contaminated food and drink are Escherichia coli infections."

Haiti has had a very turbulent past. Once one of the most productive countries in the region as evidenced by its old stately homes, it has been cursed with political problems that can be found almost nowhere else. Things are beginning to improve. The country is spectacularly beautiful. It is hard to anywhere and not find the scenery just wonderful. Accommodations are good and getting better.
